My daughter's first Birthday party!

Here is a little of my daughter's 1st birthday from November 2008. This was before I really started my obsession for party blogs, etsy, google images, and all to do with the party world. I was inspired to share after reading my new friends blog over at A Blissful Nest. I loved her party and I love to see how far we have come thanks to all the great party inspirations out there. My blog started out featuring some of my sewing designs and custom orders and is slowly turning into a blog about how I LOVE PARTiES!!
I made this door sign inspired by some I had found on Etsy
Forgive my plastic table cloths.
this is before I knew of cupcake wrappers and cupcake toppers. Who knew I could make those myself? I made this cupcake using the Wilton cupcake pan. Not very good at decorating. One thing I need to work on is my cake decorating skills.

I made her cupcake shirt, tutu and hat

I made her cute little invites. My graphic skills are a bit better now but I still love them because this was her 1st!

I made her little birthday hat that she never wore.
Party favors. Not very original, just a bag of goodies and some really plain tags.

Sesame Street Inspiration board by Birthday Girl

Custom inspiration board: how to get to sesame street made by
Theme: Sesame Street

Party Ideas
Color Palette: Bright primary colors (red, blue, green yellow, orange, purple)
Setting: Birthday lunch & activities indoors at community building.
Decorations: Give each table a different color tablecloth and attach centerpiece to a bundle of balloons (mix mylar and regular rounds) of varying sizes and colors. If the place will allow it, you can also run a string of fabric bunting diagonally back and fourth across the room to make the space seem a bit smaller and cozier (or drape it along the edging of your dessert buffet). If you want to create large sized characters, have a place like kinkos blow up color images to poster size and affix them to foam board with a fold out stand. It would also be great to do the sesame street lamppost and street signs outside pointing the way to the party.
Food: A bite sized buffet of kid-friendly colorful foods. Mini grilled cheese & pb&j sandwiches, pizza bites, fruit salad, veggie sticks etc. for the kids, and include some grown up options like tri colored pasta salad, mixed green salad, grilled paninis etc. For an added touch, give the kid foods fun names (ie: grover’s grape jelly & peanut butter bites). Include buckets of Jones or Izze soda in a variety of flavors (Jones offers an option to create personalized labels too- you could include a photo of your kids and create a flavor name).
Dessert: A sweets buffet including 2 towers of cupcakes decorated with character faces, giant lollipops and apothecary jars filled with a rainbow of candy. Attach 2 large bundles of balloons behind the table to elevate the space and include stuffed sesame street characters of varying sizes that your kids can take home.
Favors: Offer bags for each guest to fill up with treats from the candy buffet. Seal with personalized labels or character stickers. Pre-punch holes at the top of the bags so parents can tie on balloons for their kids to carry out.
Activities: Pre-arranged entertainment by Elmo etc. Set up a table with coloring pages of the characters & lots of crayons. This site has great resources:http://www.parenting.com/sesame. For music: Putumayo has a CD of songs from the playground and there are others on the market I’m sure.
Other: On the invite, ask all the guests to wear a shirt representing the color of their favorite Sesame Street Character.

Cute Gumball Favors and a FREEBIE!

Run! Don't walk to Walmart to see all the cute Easter treats they put out. These cute Gumball machines would be so cute for party favors. They are $1 (WOW) each and come with the cute matching ribbon. I bought one of each to show the colors. I have made some simple tags for you to download for your cute gumball machines. They are super cute for Easter gifts but if you have any upcoming parties I would get them while you can. The candy is wrapped in plastic inside the machines so they should last a while. They also have the cutest flip-flops filled with candies and popcorn and cotton candy in all these colors. So fun! I'm gonna have to have an Easter party now. OH GOSH! Hope you enjoy the freebie!

Happy Fat Tuesday!

Here are some things I think of when I think of Mardi Gras. The main being the picture of all the people. The last time I went to Mardi Gras in New Orleans I swore I would never go back. I do love all the beauty and I'm happy for the people down there today enjoying all these great things. I'm happy being at home eating my Walmart King Cake!

So cute Peaches and Cream party!

Look at this super cute party I found at Juicy Bits. I just love this! I want to have a farm or go to a farm and pick peaches! What a sweet party! I just love the fabric lined baskets and the peach ice cream cones. So cute! I went to her site because she also won an award from Most Adorable Kids Party of 2009 Contest Winners!!! | Creative Hostess for her Construction party. I am planning one right now for a client and got a lot of inspiration from her party. Colors, cones and lots of Creativity! Check it out too!

Here is the 1st part of her post in her words. She has a part 2 also on her blog.

Here at long last are the details of Aurora's 5th birthday party.

Auroras_bday014

The theme: peaches and cream

The location: a farm

The activities: peach picking, eating ice cream, and much more.

I'm happy to report that we were blessed with gorgeous, sunny (if somewhat windy) weather. That's the totally stressful part of planning an outdoor party away from home. I had all of 1 1/2 hours to decorate the tent. Not pretty. Thankfully I had some helpful family around. The tent had giant peach paper lanterns strung up with felt leaves.

Auroras_bday022

I also made some fabric garlands that ran across the support bars with mini peach lanterns hanging down. Totally didn't anticipate the amount of wind so it was hard to get a decent picture, by my friend Christianne did it again.

The yellow jackets dug all the sweets I made: cupcakes, fruit bouquet, peach shaped cake pops (a la Bakerella), and take home candies.

The tables were covered with plastic (stapled because of the wind) and then fabric runners. I love all the different peachy fabric I was able to collect for this party. I used them for the runners, for garlands, for the buffet tablecloths and to line the baskets. I wanted it all to have a patchwork-y feel so I used a lot of different prints. I think I could cut up the tablecloths and made an adorable quilt someday.

The centerpieces were wooden boxes (my dad made them) that I painted and put chunks of wheat grass in. I originally saw the idea here. I love that they were fresh and green but not floral arrangements that would be expensive and have to be made the day before. The flowers are made from Raffia with little looms that I first saw from Cathy of Cal.

The peach picking meant everyone got to go home with their own fabric-lined basket full of peaches.

And since my daughter loves it so much, we had an ice cream cart (a whole issue, read part 2) with cone wraps to match the color scheme.

What in the world do we do with snow?

I live in North Louisiana where snow doesn't come but once in many years. If it does come or "they" say it's coming it never sticks. If we see snow flurries for a minute we get excited and think it's something that you have to wake your kids up in the middle of the night for. Well, the blizzard of 2010 has hit out town in a big way. The first pictures are from yesterday when I thought that is all we were getting so I rolled up as much snow as I could get to make this little pitiful snow man. I didn't have a carrot for the nose and as crafty as I am this is what we put together. Fun times in the SNOW!

Over night and 4-5 inches later our little snow man got snowed over! Look at his arms! Whoa!
So this time my daughter and I made this little girly for the front yard. I could have made a huge one but I was too lazy and too busy chasing a 2 year old around in the snow. She is cuter but still needs a nose and mouth.
We don't exactly wear snow gear her in LA!

Probably wear this one for the Mardi Gras parade on Sunday with some green leggings. Or it can be LSU!
